Evaluation Question 2

(2) How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts
(DVD digipak, Magazine advert)?

Digipak

My Digipak images all had the same black and white filter, to show consistency within the images. They had also been colour corrected to match the contrast of the images on above/below them. I wanted it to be like this so it reflected real ancillary texts as they are quite recognisable to audience. From the Digipak you can clearly see the link between images and the music video. Mise en scene is important for audience to make references to. For example the pictures of London can be linked to location within the video. Or the outfit of the artist being the same as the video. It has attracted the right target audience because the sense of being alone can be seen by the body language in the images of the actor.

This is an example of a real Digipak. As you can see like mine there is a link between repeated colours. There is also a disk and a barcode which is a clear features of a Digipak.

Magazine Advert

Compared to my Digipak and Music video the images again are really similar. This is to aim for consistency of themes within the music video. To make sure the audience feel as if that this artist is alone, sad and single. In terms of characteristics of a magazine advert there is strong features like the links to social media and the critic reviews.

Below is a real magazine advert from Artic Monkeys. which has similarities to mine. They have the starred critic reviews. Just like the Digipak and Magazine Advert the colours are simple and consistent. For mine to was to provoke certain emotions linked to my music video which actually worked according to audience feedback I had received.
